If you are planning to make your lights smart, the first question is usually which brand to buy. In Pakistan the names you will see most often are SONOFF, Aqara and Tuya. They all make good products, but they work in different ways, and the right choice depends on your wiring, your Wi-Fi and how many rooms you want to automate. This guide compares them honestly, using the official specifications of the switches House Sync actually stocks.
The short answer
- One or two rooms, neutral wire available, no hub: the SONOFF M5 Matter wall switch (Matter over Wi-Fi).
- Older house with no neutral wire: the SONOFF ZBM5 Zigbee or the Aqara Z1 (both Zigbee, both work without neutral).
- Keep your existing switch plates: an in-wall relay such as the SONOFF MINI ONE (MINI-1GS) (needs neutral) or the SONOFF ZBMINI-L2 (no neutral).
- Geyser, heater or other heavy load: the SONOFF POW Elite 20A or the SONOFF BASIC-1GSP 32A.
The rest of this article explains why.
SONOFF: the widest choice
SONOFF (by ITEAD) makes Wi-Fi, Zigbee and Matter devices that are controlled from the eWeLink app. It is the brand we stock in the biggest range, from wall switches to DIN-rail switches for your distribution board.
SONOFF M5 Matter (86 type)
The M5 is a physical push-button wall switch in the 86 × 86 mm size used in most Pakistani boards. It comes in 1, 2 and 3 gang versions and connects to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, so no hub is needed. Because it supports Matter, you can add it to Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, SmartThings or Home Assistant directly. According to SONOFF's official manual, the M5 Matter requires a neutral wire. Ratings are 10 A for 1 gang, 5 A per gang (10 A total) for 2 gang and 2 A per gang (6 A total) for 3 gang.
SONOFF ZBM5 Zigbee (86 type)
The ZBM5 looks similar but uses Zigbee 3.0 and works with or without a neutral wire. In no-neutral mode SONOFF lists a minimum load of 3 W, and the LED load is 400 W per gang. It needs a Zigbee gateway such as the SONOFF Zigbee Bridge Pro, the SONOFF iHost, an NSPanel Pro, or a Zigbee USB dongle with Home Assistant. Its Detach Relay Mode lets you keep smart bulbs permanently powered and use the button to trigger scenes instead.
SONOFF relays and high-load switches
The SONOFF MINI ONE (MINI-1GS) is a small module (39.5 × 33 × 16.8 mm) that sits behind your existing switch. It is rated 16 A / 3840 W, supports Matter over Wi-Fi and needs a neutral wire. The SONOFF ZBMINI-L2 is the Zigbee no-neutral version, rated 6 A and not suitable for fans or other inductive loads. For geysers, the SONOFF POW Elite 20A handles up to 20 A with an LCD power display, and the SONOFF BASIC-1GSP 32A mounts on a DIN rail and handles up to 32 A with energy monitoring and double-pole switching.
Aqara: premium design and Apple Home
Aqara is known for its clean design and strong Apple HomeKit support. The Aqara Z1 is a Zigbee 3.0 wall switch, 86 × 86 × 33.5 mm, available in White or Gray with 1 to 4 keys. It supports both single live wire and live + neutral wiring. Aqara rates it at 220 V~, 50 Hz, with a maximum total load of 2200 W incandescent or 400 W LED/CFL, and a 3 W minimum load on single live wire. The 4-key version has three wired switches and one wireless button.
The Z1 needs an Aqara Zigbee hub for app control, for example the Aqara Hub M100 or the Aqara Hub M1S Gen 2; ask us to confirm hub compatibility with your Z1 version before ordering. Through the hub it works with the Aqara Home app, Apple HomeKit and other ecosystems. Aqara also makes battery-powered controllers such as the Aqara Wireless Mini Switch and the Aqara Cube, which do not need any wiring at all.
Tuya: a platform, not one brand
Tuya is a smart home platform used by many different manufacturers, and their switches are controlled from the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app. Because so many factories build on Tuya, quality and wiring requirements vary a lot from one model to another. Always check the exact model's neutral requirement, box size and load rating before buying. House Sync currently stocks Tuya-compatible devices in our Tuya collection, but no Tuya wall switch at the moment. If you already use the Tuya app and need a switch, message us and we will advise honestly.

Wi-Fi vs Zigbee: which suits Pakistani homes?
Wi-Fi and Matter-over-Wi-Fi switches are the easiest start: wire the switch, add it to the app and you are done. The trade-off is that every switch is another device on your router, and each one depends on your Wi-Fi coverage. For a whole house with many switches, Zigbee is usually the better design. Zigbee devices talk to a hub instead of the router, mains-powered Zigbee devices can relay the signal for others, and hub-based scenes can keep running locally. A good Wi-Fi network still matters either way, which is why we also set up Reyee and UniFi Wi-Fi for customers.
If you already use Home Assistant, both routes work. Matter devices such as the M5 join through Home Assistant's Matter integration, and Zigbee devices join through a coordinator such as the SONOFF Dongle Plus (Dongle-PP10) with ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT. See our Home Assistant collection.
Things to check before you buy
- Neutral wire: switch the breaker off and look inside the box. Read our guide Neutral vs No-Neutral Smart Switches.
- Box size and depth: our wall switches are 86 type; measure the depth too.
- Load: stay within the rating per gang. LED limits are lower than resistive limits.
- Fans: a normal on/off switch is not a fan regulator. Check that the model is rated for the load before connecting a fan or motor.
- Load-shedding: your router and hub need power for app control. See Do Smart Switches Work During Load-Shedding?.
